Family Meals Month 2017 is coming to an end. That doesn’t mean you have to lose momentum. Use the tips and tricks you’ve learned this month to keep going. After all, family meals fuel better nutrition.
Most of us have less control of what kids consume while out of the home. Family mealtime provides an opportunity to encourage healthy eating habits. Once kids learn healthy eating habits at home, they are more likely to carry those habits with them. Getting the family together may not always be an easy task. Here are some things you can do to make it more likely to happen:
- Plan your menus. It is a lot easier to prepare a meal when you know ahead of time what you’ll be serving. You can find great menu planning tips by clicking here.
- Use your resources. Many supermarkets and grocery stores offer fresh prepared foods, food demonstrations, and recipes. You might even find already put together meals that you can use for nights when you are in a hurry.
- Get help. If family mealtime is overwhelming to you, get help! There are so many options available online with just the click of a mouse. Find tips, tricks, and recipes here on Eat Well Utah. You can subscribe to our newsletter for even more recipes delivered straight to your inbox. (Look for the Follow by Email button on our homepage). I recently discovered The Family Dinner Project and am excited to try out some of the things they offer.
- Set aside time. This is perhaps the most important thing you can do to ensure regular family mealtime. If you don’t plan for it, you won’t do it. Wrap up this month with a new plan and new goals. When will you do it? How will you do it? What will you eat? How will you make it fun? To help get inspired, you can find all of our family mealtime resources by clicking here.
To help with the question of what to eat, here’s a new recipe I’ve added to my recipe book. Enjoy!
