Fruit is considered nature’s candy. If you find your sweet tooth getting the best of you, try to swap treats with fruit. You may find your craving satisfied. MyPlate recommends that the average adult gets 1 1/2 to 2 cups of fruit each day, and to focus on fruits as part of a healthy, well-balanced diet. Fruit of all kind, plus 100% fruit juice, count toward your servings for the day. Fresh, frozen, or canned – it doesn’t matter. MyPlate offers 10 tips to focus on fruits. Check them out so you will be ready to swap treats for fruit at your next craving.
When you find yourself deep in the craving zone, try making up a batch of Apple Donuts. No cooking required!
Start out by using an apple corer to core your apples. If you don’t have a apple corer, get creative and see what else in your kitchen might work. I used a tool from my kids’ play dough set! (If all else fails, slice your apples first and then use a knife to cut out the core of the apple). Next, slice your apples about 1/4″ thick. Spread your desired flavor of cream cheese on each apple. You can mix food coloring with plain cream cheese to make them more colorful. Last, add a few candy sprinkles to finish off your masterpiece. If you want to avoid the sugar, try toping them with sliced almonds, raisins, or other dried fruit. Enjoy!
