An article written by Shannon Fable on acefitness.org says, “When exercise sounds overly complicated, or you’re worried about whether or not you can do it, or you simply don’t like how it feels, it’s natural to opt out. Instead, I urge you to forget the “must dos” for a bit. Rather than worrying about finding the perfect type of exercise for you, choose movement. It can be anything that gets you off the couch. Just be sure to make it something that is convenient and enjoyable for you, personally.”
To find joy in exercise, it is important for you to realistic about what you want to achieve. Sit down now and set S.M.A.R.T goals for 2020.
S – Specific – Make a goal that is clear and easy to understand.
M – Measurable – Add a number to your goal to track your progress.
A – Attainable – Set a goal that you can realistically achieve.
R – Relevant – Set goals that make sense for where you are in your life right now.
T – Timely – Include an end point.
Some examples of S.M.A.R.T goals in action are:
- I will exercise 3 days a week.
- I will find a couch to 5k plan and complete a 5k by June 2020.
- I will stretch and work on my flexibility every morning before work.
