Creating a casserole from scratch is simple. With just six steps, you can have a delicious, nutritious, low-cost meal on the table. Casseroles are great because you can really add in anything you like. Add a bunch of veggies if you’re working on getting your 3 servings per day. If you haven’t had a chance to do your grocery shopping, rummage through your pantry and add what you already have on hand. If you like dishes with a little bit of crunch, top your casserole with croutons, nuts, or chow mein noodles. A casserole can be customized just for you. Check out the six steps to create a casserole below.I had some chicken and broccoli on hand, so I made Creamy Chicken and Broccoli Casserole. Following the steps above, I chose the following:
1 – Choose One Starch – brown rice
2 – Choose One Protein – chicken breast
3 – Choose One or More Vegetables – broccoli
4 – Choose One Sauce – A roux using chicken broth, milk, and flour
5 – Choose One or More Flavors – Seasoning salt and garlic powder
6 – Chose One or More Toppings – Shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese and bacon
