The Power’s Out – Oh No, The Food! // Asian Style Slaw

The power is out! Now what? Do you know what to do with refrigerated and frozen food during a power outage? Check out the information from the CDC below to help determine when it’s safe to keep food after a power outage, and when it needs to be thrown away.

Take a few steps to prepare so you’ll be ready in the event of a power outage. Three easy things you can do right now are:

  1. Buy a cooler
  2. Fill water bottles and place them in the freezer.
  3. Invest in a food thermometer.

Those three simple steps will help you be more prepared to keep your food safe.

Here’s an easy recipe to throw together – no cooking necessary!

If you have shredded chicken in the fridge, go ahead and add it to the recipe. If not, leave it out. The recipe is delicious either way. In the case of a power outage, a wire whisk will work fine in the place of a blender to mix the dressing. Enjoy!
