Healthy Choices Create Better Health is designed to give you simple ways to overcome obstacles that make it challenging to be active. Taking with busy Utah parents, we have discovered four tips to help support your quest for a more active lifestyle.

Start Small.

You are more likely to develop healthy habits and avoid burnout and injury when you ease into a workout routine. Make sure to talk with your health care provider and plan small goals to build from your current fitness level. It is okay to start small and gradually add more time and intensity to your fitness routine.

Move Your Way.

It is hard to do something that you do not enjoy. There are so many ways that you can strengthen your muscles, increase your aerobic stamina and improve your balance and flexibility. Try new activities to find what you like to do. Think about what you preferred doing as a child. Ask your friends what they enjoy doing. Fitness can be fun! When it is fun, you are more likely to continue doing it.

Plan Time To Be Active.

With busy schedules and many responsibilities, it can be easy to put your health and fitness last on the list. Remember that planning time for you to care for your health is an excellent investment. Being physically active can give you more energy to take on life’s demands. Find a time that fits naturally in your schedule. Do you have to wait for kids at their soccer practice? Try going for a walk around the field instead of waiting in your car or on the sidelines. Need to pick up a couple of things from the store? Try parking far from the entrance to add steps to your day. You could also carry a shopping basket instead of pushing a cart.

Be Social.

Workout buddies can be great motivators. You can be active with family, friends, co-workers, or even pets. Spend quality time with those you care for while taking care of your health.  You can build connections with those you care about and support one another in creating better health.

It’s your choice, your move when it comes to your health.

Enjoy!
